What is Transfer MyPC ?

It is a very flexible automated tool to extract the app-centric end-user environment from an existing healthy Windows OS install and copy it to another Windows OS.

What is included ?

Client
This performs the actual data extraction and insertion on the source and target OSs. By default it displays a consumer-friendly wizard but when provided with a "policy" file can be partially or fully automated (zero touch).
Policy Manager
This is a GUI tool to create and edit Policy files to control the client app. Policy files are encrypted XML files.
Migration Manager
This is an optional GUI to launch and monitor multiple simultaneous migrations for multiple pairs of PCs.

How does it work ?

It scans the registry for users and all installed apps and associated files and settings, filters out inappropriate OS and hardware specific items and non-destructively copies a user-chosen subset of that to the target Windows OS using a variety of transport methods.

  • Create "moving van" file on running source OS and later integrate it into running target OS
  • Live transfer from static source OS (mounted filesystem or drive image file) to running target OS

Deployment and integration

  • The app is supplied as a standard Windows installer compatible package.
  • Once installed, the Client can optionally be treated as a portable application and simply copied as-is and can be run from mapped network drives etc.
  • The Client can be launched as a GUI or via command line including an optional Policy file parameter to partially or fully automate its behaviour.
  • The client can be fully managed via standard IT tools from Batch files, Powershell to SCCM/MECM etc

Transfer MyPC license

Distribution
Licenses are distributed as "serial numbers".
Each sn can have multiple license activations attached to it.
Consumption
A single licence activation is consumed in the moment before data is transferred and integrated into the target PC.
Licence activations can alternately be consumed and stored within a Policy file for later use with specific named PCs.
Online validation
Using either the Client or Policy Manager to consume a license requires at least a brief moment of internet access to contact the Laplink validation server.
If that is not practical (Client only) an activation code can be generated on any internet connected web browser using a supplied session code.
Coverage
Once a license is validated and consumed it is attached to a specific pair of source and target OSs.
The attached license permits unlimited usage of Transfer MyPC both in terms of number of uses and amount of data transferred.
